Hair obbsession

One thing about myself that I have always had a massive problem with is my hair. I wish I was rich and able to afford a proper groomed hair-do but I am very broke and to he honest I have never had the best experience at hair dressers. I have naturally very curly hair but about a year and a half ago I had it chemically straightened and a blunt fringe cut in; this has left me with very curly roots and straight ends and an annoying fringe that I am growing out.
It is a big old fugly mess.

This leaves me partial to a lot of hair dreaming.

My current hair obsession is the whole Bettie Page look which is sweeping through the American popstresses and is also rocked by my favourite red head (bar Jessica Rabbit and Ariel - obviously) Karen Elson.

Here she is performing her song 'The Ghost Who Walks' (apparently inspired by her time suffering from an eating disorder when she was at school).

Beyonce and Rihanna have also been spotted sporting 'the Betty Page' in the their videos. The only downside that I can envisage of this look is that is appears to require a fair bit of maintenance; you know fringe trimming, hair curling fringe straightening. And changing your mind about this drastic fringe is going to require a lengthy growing out period...fugly alert right there. If it could be maintained to look like Katy Perry's version then I think all my hair woes could be banished...

...then all this little blogger's hair dreams would come true

Band Crush

Last night I schlepped my little bum to KOKO in Camden to see my new favourite band crush; Hurts. The duo of Theo and Adam are actually pals of my flatmate and my fella, and it was amazing seeing Theo stand up on stage with all the bright lights and fans screaming their lyrics.

All biasedness aside it was easily on of the best gigs I have been to in ages; the band on before them Everything Everything were seamless and the crowed was electric. Hurts performance was captivating, and the opera singer they had was the cherry on top.

One aspect of Hurts that inspires me (aside from their brilliantly crafted pop songs) is their wonderfully styled videos and sharp tailoring. Their look is pretty impeccable and has an edge of 40s saville row with Morrissey charisma. They have also not taken the conventional music route; A&R basically followed them throughout the whole of Europe to convince them to sign a deal and they have no standard myspace, meaning that you can't get over saturated with their tunes and each now songs is a new discovery. Theo has always been a sharp dresser but their reversion to classic tailoring is a breath of fresh air from the usual deshevelled indie kids in girls trousers. Not that I am against the whole Razorlight look- but I would pick a Theo inspired style over a Johnny anyday.

I should also add who I saw at the gig...none other than Pam Hogg, Ben Grimes and Calvin Harris!
It was all very exctiting.
I have a feeling these boys are going to be rock superstars at this is just that start of their celebrity fanbase.

Glorious Gala's Best Dressed

Anne Hathaway in Valentino
Anne is always a stellar example of feminine princess chic on the red carpet. She may not be the most exciting but she is always stunning.

Stella McCartney, Liv Tyler and Kate Hudson in Stella McCartney
These three are pretty as a picture as always. Although between the three I think Liv takes the crown for the best dressed.

M.I.A, Alexander Wang and Zoe Kravitz in Alexander Wang
It is hard to look young and relaxed at such an extreme style event but these three win a gold medal for effort and execution. I adore M.I.A's chain mail dress and rings against her pinned 40s curls.

Zoe Saldana in Calvin Klein
Simply stunning. I have been noticing Zoe for a while now and for all the right reasons. Her style is so flawless and this Calvin Klein dress shows of her style credentials (and banging body) perfectly.

Kate Bosworth in Valentino
To be honest I don't have a whole lot to say about this dress. I mean it is a beautiful dress and suits her style and shape perfectly but I am not in love with. It isn't the most daring dress of the evening...I am more of an M.I.A girl myself.

Alexa Chung in Philip Lim
The masculine trend was much bigger at the Gala last year. But comparing Rihanna and Alexa's take on the trend I much prefer Alexa. It is much more coquettish and feminine than Rihanna's uber-structured look.

Chloe Sevigny in Proenza Schouler
This colour is amazin' and the balance between short hem and formal occasion is neatly balanced. I am knew Chloe would think outside the box, and this outfit is just another example of why she is such a style icon.

Kirsten Dunst in Rodarte
I go between loving and, well, not loving this look but at this very second I am loving it. It is a little bit like a dishevelled wedding dress a la Madonna and the detailing is elegant especially the on the shoulder and the pearls along the bust.

Sienna Miller in Emilio Pucci with Jude Law. Hottest couple ever.
She is smoking, he is a stud. Enough said.

Dreams

Tonight is one of the fashion highlights of the year, the Met Costume Gala. What I wouldn't give to be sitting in some swish New York pad getting all dolled up and slipping into a couture dress tailored for me. Getting all quaffed and powdered so I looked like the fashion starlet I wished to be.

AHH WELL.... girls can dream can't they?

Oh and in this dream I would be wearing this shinning star from the Givenchy Spring Couture show

Maybe minus the lampshade hat.

Flower Power

Reiss Blazer ~ Vintage Cardi ~ H&M T-shirt ~ Old Ladies Trousers from China ~ Vintage Belt ~ Mum's Old Shoes

I have had these trousers for a year now but I hardly ever wear them. I bought them in this old ladies store next to my flat when I lived in China. They were dirt cheap and haven't lasted very well (the pockets both have huge holes rendering them useless), but I do love them. I don't think they are massively flattering (hence the lack of wear) but they are very light weight which is good for the impending summer sunshine and the bold flowery print really does make a little happier inside.
Bit more confidence from me and they will be the perfect summer trouser.
