knuckle dusters

I want fists like this...

If I was Daphne Guiness.....

Couture Week is now in full swing in Paris, and like most of you I have had my eye firmly attached to style.com viewing and dissecting all the beautiful wears with my lovely flatmate. So far I have been both overawed and overwhelmed by the collections that have stormed down the Parisian catwalks. The recurring theme over the Armani Prive and Chanel shows was the delicate mercury that dripped from the models tiny frames.
But even with this commonality each show was so distinct. Chanel's collection was classic timeless chic sticking to the traditional Chanel suit and dresses that had clever and beautiful embellishments. The dresses flowed from molten silk adorned with moulded metal to cocooning capes and chiffon frills. Every time I go over the images I am struck by the details and beauty within this show, and these are my favourite picks;

OK so I may have just waxed lyrical about the Chanel show and don't get me wrong the term 'to die for' doesn't even come close. But my absolute favourite show so far has to have been Givenchy.
The mix of feminine-masculine tailoring, the use of ostrich feathers, sheer fabrics and lampshade hats gave an amazing versatility to this collection. For me Couture has to have an extreme and dreamlike quality to it but what I love about what Tisci has done is that he has created a show which has silhouettes and tenets that are wearable, although I may suggest leaving the lampshade hat at home. The strong deep blues, emerald greens and midnight blacks give a Gothic jewel box definition to this collection and if I was Daphne Guiness this would be my wardrobe...

I Want This Please

Its cold outside and I need to keep warm. This is perfect.

It is a jacket but I kid you not it feels like a duvet; a stylish wearable duvet.

American Apparel.

Harper's Lovin'

There was a time when I longed for my weekly Grazia fix and counted down the sleeps till I could get my tiny hands on the latest edition of Nylon and Vogue. But those days have passed. When I buy fashion magazines I don't choose them based on their human interest stories, celebrity lead trends or the classifieds; if I wanted this I would buy Heat. But I don't. I also don't pick my magazine based on what hot new young Hollywood starlet is on the cover either, sorry Nylon. I am still fully devoted to my bi-annual Lula magazine but twice a year just isn't enough of a fashion fix for this little lady. That is why I am so pleased to have found my new favourite monthly glossy, Harper's Bazaar. In the past 3years this magazine has undergone a massive transformation at the helm of Lucy Yeoman involving a change of name and new direction. Although it is no longer an elitist magazine that only appeals to toffs and Tatler readers it has still retained much of its original ethos of creating an exciting magazine for a 'well-dressed woman with a well-dressed mind'; now it's just a younger sexier woman.

Little Bit of Louis

These retro Marc Jacobs designed sunglasses for Louis Vuitton are a real departure from the French luxe brands normal aesthetic. If this wasn't enough of a change check out the ad campaign. Instead of their usual polished models and super styled imagery, Andre Saravia snapped Parisian and New York hipsters and trend setters on Polaroid for that authentic 70's feel. LFW Rising Stars

The provisional timetable for London Fashion Week has been announced and boy o boy am I excited! Flying through the schedule I noticed that Erdem has been placed at lunch time on Monday the 22nd of February and as with every name that catches my interest I follow them up on the London Fashion Week website to see what little secrets about them I can learn.

The thing that made my smile about Erdem’s interview was how he stated that London is the catalyst for everything “fashion”. I have held this view close to my heart for a very long time, but hearing it for a magnificent artist who has lived in the fashion Mecca of New York fills me with pride. The diversity that you find in this city is unparalleled and I get a burst of joy every time I can say that I call London my home (and I do try and bring it into conversation a lot).

One other London name that sprang at me was Fashion East. A non-profit organisation that offers a very supportive launch-pad to London’s brightest new talents has finally been welcome from the off-schedule shows into the official LFW timetable. They show a collection of designers who offer something unique and fresh which is important to the whole development of the industry. From their S/S 10 ready to wear collection Holly Fulton was ear marked by style.com as the ‘breakout star’, having produced a wearable Sixties/ Art Deco inspired collection that I would welcome into my wardrobe with open arms. And I am sure that on the 20th of February there will be some star that comes onto our radar through the medium of Fashion East and I, for one, cannot wait.

New year

I am back from my jaunt to Latin America feeling refreshed and revitalized - living on brown rice and salad in the middle of the mountains will do that to a girl- but also very happy to back in my lovely house in my lovely London. I have missed her and I have missed her shopping.

This year I start my new year shopping with a mission and a resolution, to revitalize my draw of delicates. I am going into my final semester of Uni and so am grasping onto anything and everything that will make me feel good, and I believe there is no better feeling than a good pair of knickers. John Galliano showed a revival of lace and satin teddies in the Christian Dior RTW S/S 10 show; although in these sub-zero temperatures it is probably still a bit cold to stalk the streets of London in these alone. But there is no harm in starting my collection a tad early is there. It can be a little silk secret between me and my jeans. So here is the wish list to start my year off right- heart melting aren't they.

Journelle Teddies
TopShop Pink Bralet and Mini Briefs
Mimi Holiday Red Bra and Chiffon Thong
Myla Cream Bandeau and Briefs
Stella McCartney Black Bra and Shorties
